Все сие письмо есть не что иное, как ряд просьб, которые попрошу тебя по возможности исполнить и при этом простить нахальство, с которым продолжаю злоупотреблять твоей дружбой.

1) Мне нужно купить ''пианино'' ценой приблизительно рублей в 300. Есть ли у тебя в складе таковой? Если есть, то я его приобретаю на чистые деньги и попрошу прислать мне, и по возможности скорее! Если нет, то попроси, пожалуйста Кашкина или Танеева поискать для меня у Николаи и у других, напр[имер] у Мейкова.

2) Потрудись подписаться для меня на «Моск[овские] вед[омости]» на ''полгода'' с пересылкою сюда, в Каменку.

3) Сестра потеряла счёт должных тебе ею денег за последнюю посылку нот (кажется, осенью) и просит таковой прислать.

4) Потрудись послать артельщика к Соловьеву и купить у него 2 книги, а именно: 1) «''Религия и философия''» Бориса Чичерина и 2) «''Князь Бисмарк и его люди''» Буша. Обе книги только что вышли. Вот покамест все. Если Ларош исполнил своё обещание и написал статью об аресте литургии, то потрудись и её при слать. Сегодня я кончил партитуру сюиты и завтра принимаюсь за 4-хручное переложение. И то и другое пришлю тебе через недели полторы. После того примусь за инструментовку оперы.

Я здесь ожил. Погода стоит чудная, люди окружают меня хорошие, и так как нет никакого сомнения, что я не встречу, гуляя по полям и лесам, ни Василия Соколова, ни Шостаковского, ни Александры Доримедонтовны, ни Стасова, ни Лукина, ни Кавелина, ни Мамонтовой, ни Муромцевой, ни Фаворского, ни вообще каких бы то ни было людей, или противных или скучных, ни, наконец, гениальной и несравненной дамы, получающей у тебя 50 р[ублей] в месяц, — то я покоен и доволен.
