Да благословенна будет женщина, родившая на свет ''Мессера''! По всему видно, что человек вполне подходящий к твоим требованиям. Лишь бы только он не охладел в своём рвении. Сегодня, душа моя, я уезжаю в Харьковскую губернию. Предпринимаю это путешествие с целью отдохнуть. Оно продлится дней 10. Признаться, я очень устал от работы. Но зато, ей Богу, опера будет на этот раз порядочная. Грешный человек, я нет-нет, да и восхищусь ею. К сожалению, я не могу послать тебе 2-х действий в партитуре, ибо нужно сначала сделать клавираусцуг, за который я примусь тотчас по возвращении, а может быть, и во время гощения у Кондратьева успею кое-что сделать. Знаешь ли, что инструментовка этой оперы была бы для меня чистейшим наслаждением, если б, к несчастию, у меня не сидел на шее клавираусцуг, т. е. работа, которую я глубоко ненавижу. Не возьмётся ли тот же Мессер помочь мне? Не сделает ли он первые два действия. Боже, как я был бы счастлив спустить ему эту работу с рук. Что он хороший музыкант, терпеливый и добросовестный человек — для меня несомненно, но скоро ли он работает? Поговори с ним и напиши мне ответ.
