Милый друг! Я поместил одного талантливого мальчика в Училище ''живописи и ваяния''; платить за его учение и содержание будет каменский хозяин, Ник[олай] Вас[ильевич] Давыдов, но я не могу содрать с него деньги, покамест не определится, чего вое это будет стоить. Между тем Толя, которому поручено устройство этого дела, вероятно, встретит на первое время затруднение в разных требующихся обстоятельствами уплатах. Я сказал ему, чтобы в случае нужды обращался к тебе; пожалуйста, открой ему маленький кредит. когда получу с Давыдова деньги, пошлю их толе, и он тебе отдаст.

«Каприччио» и концерт отправил к тебе. За первый ручаюсь, а за второй нет, а так как страстно хочется, чтобы издание было безукоризненно, то прошу тебя устроить, чтобы его проиграл Танеев или даже Ник[олай] Григ[орьевич]. Если никаких опечаток в глаза им не бросится, то значит, моя корректура безупречна. Если же найдут, пусть отметят, и тогда, вместе с моими новыми поправками, все это отдать в металлографию, велеть исправить — и засим пустить в свет сего последнерожденного нашего младенца.

Dear friend! I've enrolled one talented young man in the School of ''Painting and Sculpture''; the manager at [[Kamenka]], Nikolay Vasilyevich Davydov, will pay for his teaching and upkeep, but I can't take the money off him until the cost of all this has been determined. Meanwhile, [[Tolya]], who has been entrusted with the arrangements in this matter, is likely in the short term to encounter difficulties with the various payments that the situation requires. I've told him to turn to you if the need arises; please, extend him a little credit. When I receive the money from [[Davydov]] I'll send it to [[Tolya]], and he'll give it to you.

The "[[Italian Capriccio|Capriccio]]" and the concerto have been sent off to you. I can vouch for the first, but not the second, and since I want terribly for the edition to be impeccable, then I ask you to arrange for [[Taneyev]] or even [[Nikolay Grigoryevich]] to play it through. If in their eyes there are no misprints, then this means my proofreading is flawless.
