Простите меня, милый, дорогой Эдуард францович, — я уезжаю сегодня! Всю ночь я провёл в колебаниях и, наконец решился уехать. Я слишком измучен и утомлён нравственно, да есть и некоторые другие причины, которые делают мне дальнейшее пребывание в Петербурге невозможным!

Спасибо Вам, дорогой мой друг, за все Ваши заботы о моей опере, за всё то дружеское расположение, которое Вы оказали мне и которое я высоко ценю и никогда не забуду!

Передайте мою живейшую благодарность всем артистам, столь много постаравшимся для успеха оперы, особенно Каменской, Прянишникову, Стравинскому.

Вместе с этим письмом я посылаю Геннадию Петровичу заявление об отказе от поспектакльной платы за представление в пользу хора.

Прощайте, голубчик; бесконечно, горячо благодарю Вас за всё!
