I sent you the Bortnyansky proofs 4 days ago . Proofs (as I know very well from experience) cannot be done instantaneously, i.e. plonked down and done, because then a thousand errors will go unnoticed. I can only do this in certain portions, which is why I have to keep of hold of them for longer than necessary, and there was also the unpleasant incident at the Postiglione, which caused me to lose three days. However, frankly speaking, I'm not too troubled by your fretting, my golubchik! Publish as best you can, i.e. with as few errors as possible, but don't worry about the timing; it won't be a tragedy if the instalment comes out a week later.

Regarding the Bombardone , kindly learn from the theatre the name the instrument they use for a cannon, i.e. the large suspended drum which is beaten like a gran cassa. If it has no name, and I'm actually mistaken in calling this thing a bombardon, then instead of Bombardone in the score, put Canon, or Colpi di Canone, or Canons, or Coups de canons, or in Russian cannon, as the existing note on the 1st page will explain that this is not a real cannon, but a drum .

I'll be in Moscow for the annunciation .
I embrace you.
