	Golubchik [[Tolya]]! What a burden has fallen on me here! I'd barely reconciled myself to the thought that I had to write a march, commissioned by the city of [[Moscow]], when I received a letter from the chairman of the commission (for the coronation), Richter, enclosing an enormous poem by [[Maykov]], approved by the Sovereign, with a steely earnest request to set it to music, which I didn't have the courage to refuse. And now I'm writing two works at once, both of which must be ready very quickly, considering that the cantata is a very large work. All of this needs to be finished as soon as possible, and I'm not in a particularly auspicious mood, because life in [[Paris]] and [[Tanya]] are not especially conducive to inspiration. Anyway, there's no point in complaining; both have already been started and they're coming along decently, but when will all this end? If [[Tanya]]'s health happened to improve altogether, then I should gladly go to Madame Mayor and work on the coronation works there. But for the time being that's unthinkable. [[Modest]] will probably be going soon, and we can't both leave her now. Thank God that I'm in such good health that I can write at the speed of a train, and visit[[Tanya]], and eat, and drink, and sleep, without any ill-effects; just don't expect any proper letters from me. I'll only write so as not to leave you without news. I'm unlikely to make it to [[Moscow]] before the twentieth of April. Otherwise it's all going well for us here. 	Голубчик Толя! Вот и свалилась на меня обуза! Едва я примирился с мыслью, что необходимо написать марш, заказанный городом Москвой, как получил письмо от председателя комиссии (коронационной) Рихтера со вложением громадного стихотворного произведения Майкова, одобренного государем, и с сталь убедительной просьбой положить его на музыку, что я не имел духу отказать. И вот теперь пишу разам два сочинения, которые оба должны быть очень скоро готовы, заметь, что кантата сочинение очень большое. Всё это нужно кончить как можно скорее, — а расположение духа не особенно благоприятное, ибо жизнь в Париже и Таня — не особенно содействуют вдохновению. Впрочем, нечего Бога гневить: и то и другое уже начал, и идёт порядочно, но когда всё это кончу? Если бы случилось, что здоровье Тани совсем бы пошла на лад, то я с удовольствием уехал бы к M[ada]me ~~Мауог~~ и у неё бы занялся коронационными сочинениями. Но покамест об этом и думать нечего.
