Вел[икая] кн[ягиня] Екат[ерина] Мих[айловна] хочет устроить исполнение кантаты очень блестящее, с громадным хором, с Лавровской и т. д., и естественно, что ей бы не хотелось отнять интерес новизны от своего предприятия. Я же с своей стороны тем более сочувствую ей, что знаю заранее, что у неё исполнено будет лучше, чем в Муз[ыкальном] общ[естве], где хоры скверны и репетиций очень мало. Поэтому я очень бы желал, чтобы в Петербурге кантата не была исполняема раньше, чем у неё, и прошу тебя насколько можно стараться, чтобы так и вышло.

Относительно «''Mазепы''» успокойся; весь мой каприз и моя злоба состояли в том, что я не хотел ''Рааб''; все остальные причины, почему я хотел отложить постановку оперы в Петербурге, не важные. Направник на моё письмо отвечал, что ручается за хорошее исполнение партии Марии ''Сионицкой'' или ещё какой-то другой дебютанткой. Я послал официальное распределение ролей, и опера пойдёт.
