For example, she tells me that ''Fenka the serf'' almost dropped me when I was a little boy, and then goes on to discuss the actions of this careless and frivolous Fenka, as if she were sitting here in the old girl's room, and it was necessary to immediately take measures so that she would not be so inattentive in the future. She has no memory, and so far she cannot remember the boys or girls, constantly calling ''Rina'' "her" and "him", while remembering the distant past with the vividness of something happening before her eyes. Вообще я живу теперь очень удобно, т. е. обладаю всеми теми тремя комнатками, которые для меня и были выстроены. Вообще же жизнь здешняя для меня очень приятна, но нужно признаться, что отсутствие старших мальчиков очень заметна и всё, особенно вечером, чувствуют какую-то пустоту и как бы грусть. Я лично ужасно сильна по временам грущу о Бобике. Ука, несмотря на все свои прелестные качества, не может нисколько. заменить отсутствующих. Как мне бы хотелось, чтобы ты видел сестрицу? Это нечто. совершенно особенное; ни на что не похожее. Она живой обломок давнего. прошлого, совсем забытого и уже чуждого. Иногда даже страшно как-то, — точно привидение. Всё 30 лет, которые она прожила без нас, для неё не существуют, и о них она никогда не говорит, зато ~~гады~~, проведённые в нашем доме, составляют для неё всё, и она говорит о разных мелких подробностях, происходивших 40 лет тому назад, с таким тоном, с таким живым интересам к ним, как будто это вчера было.
