Then we had supper, and I don't know why, but upon returning home I experienced such melancholia that I shed streams of tears, as a result of which I slept magnificently, and the next day I happily set off for [[Pleshcheyevo]], bringing [[Laroche]] with me. He spent only the evening with me, and the next morning, in order not to miss classes (which?), he rose at 4 o'clock and left on the first train. For the time being, as at the start of last year, [[Laroche]] is being very punctual at the Conservatory — but ''he does absolutely nothing'', neither pressing on with the article, nor the promised translation of Hanslick. He took an advance of 300 rubles from the Conservatory, and squandered them exceptionally quickly. However, he has acquired himself a new ''outfit''. Я нисколько не претендую, чтобы ты теперь писал мне часто и много ибо очень понимаю, что не до того. Однако одно мытарство комедия прошла уже, и я совершенно уверен, что и второе она пройдёт.

У меня здесь наступила, наконец, хорошая погода и сегодня день до того хорош, что мне даже жаль, что никого нет, чтобы разделить удовольствие. Был я на 2 дня в Москве. Главная цель была отвезти корректуру и повидать Танеева, который уже начал разучивать концерт. Кроме того, ездил, чтобы праздновать именины Софьи Иван[овны]. На второй день пребывания я провёл вечер в Консерватории, где собрались всё ''наши'', чтобы слушать фантазию ''Пабста'' на «Мазепу». Фантазия эффектна. Потом ужинали, и на меня нашла, не знаю почему, такая мерлехлюндия, что, возвратившись домой, я излил целые потоки слез, вследствие чего великолепно спал и на другой день с наслаждением отправился в Плещеево, забрав с собой Лароша. Он провёл у меня лишь вечер, и на другое утро, чтобы не пропускать классов (каков?), встал в 4 часа и уехал с первым поездом. Покамест, как и в прошлом году вначале, Ларош очень аккуратен в Консерватории, — но ''ничего ровно не делает'', ни статью не продолжает, ни обещанного перевода Ганслика. Взял вперёд 300 р[ублей] из Консерватории и необычайно скоро прокутил. Впрочем, ''платье'' новое себе сделал.

Я писал Направнику, дабы узнать у него, когда меня вызовут в Петербург; если в середине, а тем более в начале октября, то не стоит приезжать в Петербург сверх абонемента. Ужасно зовут в Каменку. И хочется, и как-то не хочется; вероятно, не поеду.

Сегодня приезжал ко мне Пахульский. Рассыпался ужасна. Ей Богу, всё-таки не знаю, что он за человек. ''Инцидент'' с отцом совершенно изгладился у меня из памяти; теперь, кроме крайних любезностей, ничего нет. Это был последний визит, и уж отныне могу быть спокоен: никого, кроме Лароша, у меня [не] будет.

Работаю очень усердно. Продолжаю восхищаться Диккенсом и Гёте. Много играю.
