But then what a joy it was to return home, to dear Russia! After [[Paris]], [[Petersburg]] strikes me as a desert; and indeed, full of life as it in winter, it currently resembles a city abandoned by its inhabitants. [[Nikolay Ilyich]] and [[Olga Sergeyevna]] are here. Just imagine: they want to take in some orphan boy and bring him up. This will utterly change their whole way of life. I'm glad about this. В Париже в последнее время: было ужасно много всякой суеты и хлопотни, и от новых знакомств просто отбою не было. Кроме того, на меня в последние дни пребывания в Париже нашла мания все покупать, заказывать платья, белье и т. д., и нельзя описать, до чего я был измучен усталостью. Но зато какое счастье было возвращаться. домой, в милую Россию! Я останусь в Петербурге 2 дня просто для того, чтобы отдохнуть, опомниться и насладиться «''белыми ночами''», которых я лет двадцать не видел. Петербург поражает меня после Парижа своей пустынностью; и действительно насколько зимой он полон жизни, настолько теперь похож на покинутый жителями город. Николай Ильич и Ольга Серг[еевна] здесь. Представь себе: они хотят взять на воспитание какого-то мальчика сироту. Это совершенно изменит весь. строй их жизни. Я радуюсь этому. Они скоро собираются в деревню.		Паничка!
