	Letter No. II was written by me 2 weeks ago, and couldn't be sent because [[Jurgenson]] didn't have your address. Now I have the address, and I'm hastening to write you a few lines. Nothing much has happened since No. II was written. I'm living tolerably by myself in [[Maydanovo]], although I won't say it's particularly pleasant. Firstly, the weather has been vile the whole time. Secondly, I feel out of sorts almost all the time. And I myself don't know what it is, but this is the 3rd year that I've constantly been feeling poorly in the summer. Whether I'm catching cold from swimming, or perhaps my constitution is more suited to winter in general — but it's only in winter that I'm incomparably healthier. I'm writing very poorly. I still haven't written a tenth of the 4th act of the opera, but I must finish it by the autumn without fail. The summer residents make me awfully angry, although, in essence, they are all very people; but just imagine that everyone is busy with music, and from morning to evening I hear the practising of scales, sonatas by Clementi, [[Beethoven]], [[Weber]], etc. Lord, how they act on my nerves. Incidentally, a former student of the Conservatory, ''Wiesler'', is living in one of the dachas. Do you know her??? Out of our lot, besides [[Jurgenson]] and [[Albrecht]], each of whom I saw once for only a quarter of an hour, I haven't seen anyone. Tomorrow [[Jurgenson]], [[Kashkin]] and [[Albrecht]] are due to come to me. We'll be drinking vodka, eating turkey soup, and remembering our dear ''[[Aleksandra Hubert\|Bata]] and [[Nikolay Hubert\|Tota]]''. 			Write at least a word or two. You've probably borrowed from the college secretary, and are using her hard-earned kopeks to go off carousing!!! Not that I would do that! I don't need a college secretary.

Письмо № II было мной написано недели 2 тому назад и не могло быть послано потому, что у Юргенсона не было вашего адреса. Теперь адрес есть, и я спешу вам написать несколько строчек. С тех пор как был написан № II, ничего особенного не произошло. Живу себе помаленьку в Майданове, и не скажу чтобы особенно приятно. Во-1-х, погода все время мерзкая. Во-2-х, я почти все время недомогаю. И сам не знаю, что это такое, но только вот уже 3-ий год, что я постоянно летом плохо себя чувствую. Простуживаюсь что ли от купанья, или вообще, может быть, для моего организма зима больше подходит, — но только зимой я несравненно здоровее бываю. Пишется мне очень плохо. Я до сих пор и десятой части 4-го действия оперы не написал, а нужно бы непременно к осени его окончить. Дачники меня злят ужасно, хотя, в сущности, все премилые люди; но представьте, что все музыкой занимаются и я с утра до вечера слышу гаммы, зубрение сонат Клемент , Бетховена, Вебера и т. д. Боже, как они мне на нервы действуют. Между прочим на одной из дач бывшая ученица Консерватории ''Визлер'' живёт. Знаете Вы её??? Из наших, кроме Юргенсона и Альбрехта, коих видел каждого всего на четверть часа по одному разу, — ни с кем не видался. Завтра ко мне собираются Юргенсон, Кашкин и Альбрехт. Будем упиваться водкой, есть суп из индейки и вспоминать наших милых ''Бату и Тоту''.

С нетерпением жду Вашего приезда. И где это Вы шляетесь вместо того чтобы на месте сидеть???

Напишите хоть словечко. Небось заняли у коллежской секретарши и на её копеечки, с трудом нажитые, гуляете!!! Не то, что я! Мне коллежская секретарша не нужна.
