Сердце моё рвётся к Вам, на покамест придётся ограничиться только письменным изъявлением моей бесконечной любви к Вам. Дело в том, что я собираюсь это лето попутешествовать, а именно, поехать отсюда на Юг, т. е, в Киев и Каменку, а потом, в половине июня, дёрнуть за границу через Елизаветград, Жмеринку и Волочиск. В Петербург ехать мне бы стоила дорога, поэтому я покамест буду лишён удовольствия расцеловать Вас. Как жаль, что Вы решили остаться в Питере и что мы не проведём хоть несколько дней вместе, в Каменке! Из Каменки и из-за границы я буду Вам непременно писать, и весьма может статься, что назад я проеду через Питер.

Все последнее время я был в лихорадочный деятельности. Постановка пиэсы Островского с моей музыкой, переложение для печати моей симфонии, экзамены, приём Константина Николаевича. Кстати, он был со мной чрезвычайно любезен, остался в восторге от моей симфонии и наделал мне множества комплиментов.

Здоровье моё хорошо, на нервы да крайности раздражены и утомлены, и самым лучшим средствам для них будет путешествие. Извините, что пишу Вам на клочочке. Теперь 4 часа ночи, и у меня не нашлось бумаги.

Целую ручки у Вас и обнимаю мою милую Л[изавету] М[ихайловну].

My heart is pining for you, but for now I shall have to confine myself to written expressions of my unending love for you. The fact is that I am going to be travelling this summer, namely, heading from here to the South, i.e. to [[Kiev]] and [[Kamenka]], and then in the second half of June, to haul myself abroad by way of Yelizavetgrad, Zhmerinka and Volochysk. It would cost too much for me to go to [[Petersburg]], so I shall be deprived of the pleasure of kissing you for the time being. What a pity that you have decided to remain in [[Piter]], and that we shall not spend at least a few days together at [[Kamenka]]! I shall certainly write to you from [[Kamenka]] and from abroad, and it may very well be that I shall come through [[Piter]] on the way back.

Lately I've been feverishly busy all the time, with the staging of [[Ostrovsky]]'s piece with my music, arranging my symphony for publication <ref name="note1"/>, the exams, and a reception for [[Konstantin Nikolayevich]] <ref name="note2"/>. By the way, he was extremely friendly with me, full of enthusiasm for my symphony, and paid me many compliments.

My health is good, but my nerves are extremely tired and irritable, and travel will be the best cure for them. Excuse the scraps I'm using to write to you. It's now 4 o'clock in the morning, and I can't find the writing paper.
