At 5.30, I come home to change clothes and find a dispatch: "''Have broken my arm, please come to see me, [[Laroche]]''". You can imagine my distress and horror. I set off at once, and learned the following. The day before, [[Laroche]] and [[Yekaterina Laroche\|Katerina Ivanovna]] were with me at the Italian Opera. After that, we had dinner together, with [[Kashkin]] and [[Albrecht]] too, and spent a very enjoyable time until 3 o'clock at night. It turned out that, after we parted ways, [[Laroche]] came up with the idea of taking [[Yekaterina Laroche\|Katerina Ivanovna]] along the most awful road to the park. They sat at "''Yar's''" and returned at 6 o'clock in the morning. Before reaching the Triumphal Arch, the cab driver crashed, and poor [[Manya]] broke his arm.
