Весьма благодарю тебя за твои оба письма и от души радуюсь, что ''наша'' опера пойдёт. Касательно роли Морозовой я хотел тебе сообщить следующее соображение. Нельзя [ли] вызвать для этой роли здешнюю ''Кадмину'', которая могла бы быть превосходной исполнительницей. Она превосходная актриса и весьма симпатичная певица. Во всяком случае, нужно избегнуть Крутикову. У меня кроме того большая к тебе просьба. Я теперь нахожусь под впечатлением трагической катастрофы, случившейся с одним близким мне человекам, и нервы мои потрясены ужасно. Ничего делать я не в состоянии. Поэтому прошу тебя не торопить меня с фортепьянными пиэсами. Ты их наверное получишь, но я не ручаюсь, что это будет в самом близком будущем. Недели две, три подожди.
