Вследствие полученной мною вчера телеграммы из ''Ахена'' от Кондратьева, я с следующим пароходом из Батума еду в Одессу, оттуда в Дрезден и Ахен. Умирающего Кондратьева каким-то чудом довезли до Ахена, воды которого, как думают, могут на несколько месяцев продлить его печальное существование. Вчера он телеграфировал мне следующее: ''Supplie venir, votre arrive peut me ressusciter''. Невозможно не ехать; бросаю своё лечение и отправляюсь. Вследствие этого неожиданного обстоятельства мне ещё нужны деньги, и потому я займу у Анатолия 500 р[ублей], а Павлу Ивановичу буду писать, чтобы он прислал их на имя Анатолия сюда. Таким образом я уже взял отсюда (вместе с 500 р[ублей], которых жду с часу на час) 1000 р[ублей], и очень может быть, что придётся ещё к тебе в конце лета обращаться, хотя в прошлом письме я и обещал тебе больше не отягощать тебя денежными просьбами. Пожалуйста, извини, голубчик!

Бог знает сколько времени придётся прожить в Ахене. При благоприятных обстоятельствах (т. е. если кто-нибудь меня сменит при больном) или в случае смерти больного я могу в августе уже быть в России. Если же нет, то не ранее сентября.
