Модя! В то утро, когда я тебе писал (15 ноября), я чувствовал себя отвратительно и думал, что придётся отказаться от концерта. Однако, пересилив себя, пошёл; там у меня перед выходом сделалась истерика, после коей я всё-таки вышел на эстраду и чувствовал, что на этот раз дирижировал лучше, чем когда-либо. Подобного восторга и триумфа я ещё никогда не имел. Дешёвая публика держала себя очень мило, слушала внимательно и не шумела.

Следующий день я провел [в] Москве, больше всего у Пани, которой стало хуже, и я уехал на другой день в большом беспокойстве на её счёт. В Майданове у меня все разорено, ибо Алексей, в предвиденье тифлисской поездки, все убрал и запаковал. Я живу как бы на бивуаке; тем не менее ужасно рад и счастлив. У меня появилось одно совершенно новое болезненное явление, а именно ''одышка'', которая по утрам бывает очень тяжела. Думаю, что это ''нервы'', ибо все остальные отправления отличны. Я предложил ''Ауэру'' вместо 4-го концерта дирижировать "''Mozartiana''" в третьем, ибо 23 декабря по нашему стилю я приглашён дирижировать в ''Gеwаndhaus'е'' и мне не хотелось бы упустить случай. Итак, мы увидимся, вероятно, раньше, чем я думал.

Получил вчера депешу от Толи, что Пане, слава Богу, гораздо лучше.

[[Modya]]! The morning that I wrote to you (15 November) <ref name="note1"/>, I was feeling wretched, and thought I would have to withdraw from the concert. However, I pulled myself together, and went; before my entrance I became hysterical, after which I went onto the stage all the same, and felt that on this occasion I conducted better than ever. I've never known such rapture and triumph <ref name="note2"/>. The audience in the cheaper seats supported me very kindly, listened attentively, and did not make any noise.

The following day I went to [[Moscow]], mostly with [[Panya]], who became worse, and I left the next day in great distress on her account. At home in [[Maydanovo]] I was devastated because [[Aleksey]], in anticipation of the trip to [[Tiflis]] <ref name="note3"/>, had tidied up and packed everything away. It's as though I'm living in a bivouac; nevertheless, I'm still awfully glad and happy. I've developed one completely new medical condition, namely ''dyspnoea '', which can be very troublesome in the mornings. I think that this is due to ''nerves'', because everything else remains splendid. I suggested to ''[[Auer]]'' that I should conduct "''[[Mozartiana]]''" at the 3rd concert instead of the 4th, because on 23 December our style I've been invited to conduct at the ''Gewandhaus'', and I wouldn't want to miss out on the opportunity <ref name="note4"/>. And so we shall probably see each other sooner than I thought.
