Простите, простите, простите. Провёл здесь две недели так, что буквально не мог Вам писать. Кроме суеты с концертами и с репетициями, — я ещё ухитрился заболеть и несколько дней пролежал в постели. Был у ''Погожева''. Вот что он мне сказал. Подобно мне, он находит в Вас серьёзный талант; то же самое нашёл и ''Потехин'', котором у Погожев показал пиэсу, не назвав автора. На оба советуют, прежде чем вносить в ''комитет'', подвергнуть пиэсу коренной переделке, т. е. из последования сцен, сшитых, как они говорят, на живую нитку, сделать настоящую ''комедию''. В таком виде, как теперь, они говорят, что комитет пиэсу не пропустит. Что теперь делать! Послать ли Вам пиэсу или отдать её, напр[имер], Модесту (брату) для переработки?<br />

Besides the commotion of concerts and rehearsals, I even contrived to take ill and spent several days lying in bed. I was with ''[[Pogozhev]]''. This is what he told me. Like me, he considers you to have a serious talent; this is also the view of ''Potekhin'', to whom [[Pogozhev]] showed your play <ref name="note1"/>, without disclosing the author. Both have recommended subjecting it to fundamental alterations before bringing it to the ''committee'', i.e. from the later scenes, weaving, as they say, a living thread, to make a genuine ''comedy''. They say that in its current form, the committee will not pass the play. What's to be done now! Send the play to you or give it to, for example, [[Modest]] (my brother), for reworking?<br />
