Je suis chargé par la Direction de la ''Société Impériale Musicale Russe'' de Vous remercier pour la précieuse promesse que Vous nous donnez de venir à Moscou vers le 9 Fevrier pour prendre part à un de nos concerts. On se réjouit beaucoup de pouvoir Vous entendre et Vous posséder dans nos enceintes pour quelque temps. Malheureusement pour moi, je ne pourrai Vous faire personnellement les honneurs de Moscou, car dès la fin de ''Janvier'' j'entreprends une grande ''tournée'' en Allemagne, et il est fort probable, que je me trouverai à Paris justement quand Vous serez à Moscou, car j'ai l'intention de Cologne, où je serai vers le 5 {{sic|Fevrier|Février}}, d'aller pour quelques jours à Paris spécialement pour voir mes amis. Mais soyez certain que l'on fera tout ce qui est possible pour que Moscou Vous plaise et pour que Vous en conserviez un bon souvenir.<br />

We are very happy to hear you and to have you with amongst us for some time. Unfortunately for me, I will not be able to have the honour of making your acquaintance in [[Moscow]], because from the end of ''January'' I am embarking on a grand ''tour'' in Germany, and it is highly probable that I will find myself in [[Paris]] just as you are in [[Moscow]], because from [[Cologne]], where I will be around 5 February, I intend to go to [[Paris]] for a few days specially to see my friends. But be assured that everything possible will be done to please you in [[Moscow]] and that you will retain good memories of it.<br />

The leader of the Society's orchestra, Monsieur [[Max Erdmannsdörfer|Max ''Erdmannsdörfer'']] enquires which piece or pieces you will be playing, and to tell him where the score or individual parts might be obtained for the pieces which Muscovites will be hearing.
