Голубчик Толя! Поздравляю с вице-губернаторством; я не ожидал, что это так скоро осуществится, и был поражён, прочитав в газетах о твоём назначении.

Я и рад этому, и как-то жаль, что ты ушёл из своей естественной среды. Впрочем, главное, хорошо то, что ты от Смиттена отделался.

Я сейчас напишу Юргенсону, чтобы он выслал тебе мой долг. Если я не ошибаюсь, срок уплаты всё-таки пропущен, и тебе пришлось заплатить проценты. Пожалуйста, не медля сообщи сколько ещё кроме 1000 р[ублей] я должен.

В субботу я участвовал в ''Русском симфоническом концерте''. Очень рад, что мне пришлось публично доказать, что я вне всяких партий и что я считаю для себя лестным быть там, где главным действующим лицом ''Римский-Корсаков''. Хочу встретить здесь праздники и 26 декабря уехать в деревню, в коей жить безвыездно до отъезда за границу в конце января. Мысленно я уже решил, что посещу Вас в Тифлисе в апреле, т. е. поеду из Лондона ''морем'' в Батум. Целую, обнимаю!
