Голубчик Толя! Твоё письмо мне вручили как раз, когда я садился в вагон, чтобы ехать за границу. Прочёл его с живейшим интересом. Каков ''бал'' закатила генеральша? Боже, как мне бы хотелось на нем быть!!!

В Петербурге я провёл теперь всего три дня. Всех родных перевидал; все, слава Богу, здоровы и благополучны. С Дирекцией условился написать к будущему сезону балет и оперу, но, однако, предупредил, что, быть может, моё путешествие помешает исполнить такую крупную задачу. Постараюсь работать на пароходе. Даже дорогой сюда я немножко сочинял балет. Главное, отделаться от балета, а опера меня так занимает и так мне нравится сюжет её, что только дай мне 2 недели спокойствия—и я её наверное напишу к сроку. Но увидим. Я настолько устал от дороги, что решился проночевать в Берлине. Завтра еду в Пари ж, где мне будет очень приятно, ибо там Модест, Сапельников, которых я очень рад буду видеть. Там 5-го апреля я дирижирую большим концертом из моих сочинений опять у того же Колонна, где я уже появлялся 3 года тому назад. Вскоре после того сяду на пароход. Буду писать тебе из Парижа и из Америки, а вас попрошу писать мне в ''Нью-Йорк'' по следующему адресу: ''Америка. Нью-Йорк. P. Tschaikowsky. Steinway-Hall. U.S.A. New-York''.

Дай Бог, чтобы служебные дела твои устроились, но мне будет грустно, если Вы покинете Тифлис.

Представь, какая чудачка Кат[ерина] Ив[ановна] Синельникова-Ларош! Она едет со мной в Америку, т. е. на том же пароходе. Уж не знаю, радоваться или сокрушаться, но очень может быть, что буду радоваться присутствию знакомого лица. Кокодесу скажи, чтобы чуточку подождал субсидии. Обними от меня как можно крепче Паничку и Тату, которой письмо очаровало меня.

Golubchik [[Tolya]]! Your letter was handed to me just as I was boarding the train to go abroad. I read it with the liveliest interest. How was the general's ball? God, how I wish I had been there!!!

I have only spent a total of three days in [[Petersburg]]. I saw all the relatives, who, thank God, are all healthy and prosperous. I have arranged with the Directorate to write a ballet and an opera for the upcoming season; however, I warned them that my journey may prevent me from fulfilling such a large task. I will try to work on the boat. Even on the way here I wrote a little bit of the ballet. The main thing is to dispense with the ballet, but I'm so fascinated by the opera that if I could have two weeks of peace I'd be sure to finish writing it on time. We shall see. I was so tired from the road, that I decided to spend the night in [[Berlin]]. Tomorrow I am going to [[Paris]] where I will be very happy, because [[Modest]] and [[Sapelnikov]] are there, whom I shall be very happy to see. There on 5th April I'll be conducting a big concert of my works at the same [[Colonne]] Hall where I appeared at three years ago. Shortly afterwards I shall board the ship. Imagine what a strange woman [[Yekaterina Laroche|Katerina Ivanova Sinelnikova-Laroche]] is! She's coming to America with me, on the same boat at least. I do not know if I ought to be happy or sorry, but I'll most likely rejoice in the presence of a familiar face. Tell Kokodeks to wait a little while for their allowance. Embrace [[Praskovya Tchaikovskaya|Panichka]] and [[Tatyana Tchaikovskaya|Tata]], whose letter fascinated me, as hard as you can.
