Милый Толя! Получил 2 твоих письма. Из второго, узнал о предстоящей перемене места служения. Я и рад и не рад этому. Если ты так же любишь Тифлис, как я, то я понимаю, как тебе тяжело из этой чудной страны, населённой милыми людьми, переезжать на юргенсоновскую родину. Но хорошо то, что во, 1-х, это неминуемо ведёт тебя к губернаторству, может быть, в том же Ревеле, а во, 2-х, что ты будешь ближе к своим. Летом ''Ревель'' очарователен — это тебе всякий скажет. Горю нетерпением узнать, как решится твоё дело и когда тебе придётся переезжать. Бедная Паня! Мне кажется, что, ей ещё тяжелее, чем тебе, расставаться с Тифлисом.

О своём здешнем пребывании я много писать не буду, ибо веду очень обстоятельный дневник, который привезу с собой и по прочтении его, петербургскими родными пришлю немедленно, тебе. Меня здесь очень ласкают, честят и балуют, — но я страшно скучаю и тоскую, и все моё времяпровождение, кроме редких часов одиночества, есть сплошное страдание, к счастью, однако ж, не отзывающееся на здоровье. К тому времени, когда ты будешь читать это письмо, я уже буду на выезде, ибо, место на пароходе, отходящем 21/9 мая, уже занято. О! Поскорее настал бы этот счастливый миг!!! Как только я двинусь на возвратный путь, то гора спадет с плеч. Вижу многих людей, осматриваю все достопримечательности, удивляюсь американской предприимчивости и грандиозности всех их предприятий; бываю на репетициях, где и оркестр и хор каждый раз встречают меня восторженно, изредка устраиваю себе часы ''одиночества'' и кое-как, одним словом, влачу это жалкое существование.
