Si j'ai tardé à V[ou]s écrire et V[ou]s envoyer, comme je V[ou]s l'avais promis, ma carte, c'est que bientôt après Votre départ, j'ai pris mon vol pour les bords du lac de Genève d'où je ne reviens que hier. C'est en passant par Pétersbourg que j'y ai trouvé une carte digne de V[ou]s rappeler les traits d'un homme {{sic|dui|duis}} V[ou]s a si bien secondé dans la représentation du ballet "Pygmalion et Galathée". Mes cartes moscovites sont détestables. J'ai fait un voyage très agréable et qui m'a doucement reposé des fatigues de cet hiver, — car j'avais trop travaillé et mes nerfs se trouvaient dans un état des plus {{sic|deplorables|déplorables}}. Pensez que tous les jours j'ai quatre heures d'occupations au Conservatoire et que revenu chez moi il faut que je me mette incontinent à instrumenter mon ballet qui doit être prêt pour le mois de Mars; qu'excepté cela j'ai des feuilletons à composer, des romances et des morceaux de piano commandés par Pétersbourg. J'ai été obligé d'y rester 10 jours, en partie pour des démarches relativement à l'acceptation de mon opéra au théâtre Marie, en partie pour assister aux répétitions de ma nouvelle symphonie, exécutée dernièrement à la ''Société''. À Petersburg, comme ici, on est tout plein des souvenirs de Votre aimable chère personnalité.
