Around the middle of February I have to conduct at the [[Moscow]] Musical Society's charity concert. After this concert I will visit you in [[Nizhny]]. It will be necessary to go to [[Petersburg]] as well. And after all of that I will have to ensconce myself in [[Klin]] for a long time to work. This year is terrible for me financially — I'll have to sit quietly at home and won't even manage a planned trip to England at the beginning of June. I came to [[Kamenka]] mostly in order to see the old ladies, one of which, Nastasiya Vasilyevna (Sestritsa), almost died recently. It was very heartening to find everyone healthy and cheerful. I am living in [[~~Leva~~]]'s deserted house with two old spinsters: [[Nata]] and Sestritsa. I'm here for a third day now but am leaving for [[Klin]] tomorrow. Толя, не сердись, милый, что так давно не писал. Тысячу раз в Одессе собирался тебе писать, но мне там буквально невозможно было найти время для писем. Провёл я в Одессе две недели. Дирижировал в трёх больших концертах Муз[ыкального] общ[ества] и в двух благотворительных, кроме того, присутствовал на {{sic|2|4}}-х первых представлениях «Пиковой дамы» и на бесчисленных репетициях всего этого; чествовали меня там на все лады так обильно, много и торжественно, как никогда и нигде. У стал я от бесконечных празднеств до полной прострации. Но поспавши сутки в вагоне, приехал в Каменку совершенно здоровый. Знаешь, как я ни страдаю от подобных поездок, но, кажется, в конце концов они мне полезны. Тем не менее у меня теперь страшная потребность во временном одиночестве, а потому я проеду отсюда безостановочно до Клина. Около половины февраля я должен дирижировать в Москов[ском] муз[ыкальном] общест[ве] концертом в пользу фонда. Вот после этого-то концерта я и посещу вас в Нижнем. Нужно будет также побывать и в Петербурге. А уж после всего этого придётся надолго засесть в Клину и работать. Нынешний год в финансовом отношении у меня отвратительный — придётся смирно сидеть дома и даже предположенной Поездки в Англию в начале июня я, вероятно, не совершу. В Каменку я приехал главное, чтобы повидаться со старушками, из коих одна, Настасья Вас[ильевна] (Сестрица), недавно чуть не умерла. Было мне очень отрадно найти всех здоровыми и бодрыми. Живу я в опустелом Лёвином доме с двумя старыми девами: Натой и Сестрицей. Нахожусь здесь уже третий день. Завтра уезжаю в Клин. Недели через 2 с половиной буду у вас. Обнимаю.
