Вчера утром я тебе отправил письмо с подробным объяснением разных обстоятельств, но боюсь, что вследствие неверного адреса это письмо или вовсе не дойдёт до тебя, или дойдёт позже. А главное меня беспокоит, что письмо к ''Леве'', посланное за неделю перед этим со вложением квитанции от страхового общества в посылке рояля, подвергнется той же участи. Я его адресовал так: по ''Фастовской дороге на станцию Каменка''. Между тем, Екатерина Васильевна, у которой я вчера обедал, говорит мне, что нужно всё-таки по-старому адресовать в Смелу. Если действительно мои два письма, из коих одно страховое, не дошли ещё до тебя (в чем я сомневаюсь), то пошли тотчас же на железнодорожную станцию вашу и вытребуй эти письма. А главное, ради Бога, не сердись, если из-за неверного адреса произойдёт задержка в получении инструмента.

Скажи Плесским, что деньги я получил и инструмент на днях будет выслан. Я откладываю более подробные сведения о цене и т. д. до отсылки инструмента.

Накануне Нового года я взял к себе в отпуск двоюродного брата ''Мишу Ассьера''. Он останется у меня до 6-го числа. На сей раз я нашёл в мальчике много симпатичных сторон. К сожалению, он не может вынести ничего особенно назидательного из пребывания у меня. Для него важно было бы провести несколько дней в хорошем семейном доме. Мне пришла в голову мысль, не позволишь ли ты и Лева, чтоб я привёз его на лето к вам? Это было бы для него очень полезно и благодетельно.

В моем неверно адресованном письме я сообщил тебе адрес его матери. На всякий случай напишу ещё раз: Ставропольской губ[ернии], в г[ород] Ставрополь, в Военном Училище, кварт[ира] казначея, Ольге Григорьевне ''Ассьер''.

Целую тебя как можно крепче. Все эти дни живу воспоминаниями о прошлом годе. Вчера была годовщина моего обеда, а сегодня Лёвиной болезни.
