Aleksandr Sokolovsky (1837-1915)

Russian translator (b. 1837; d. 1915), born Aleksandr Lukych Sokolovsky (Александр Лукич Соколовский).

Tchaikovsky's Settings of Works by Sokolovsky

Part of Sokolovsky's Russian translation of the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare (1564–1616) was used by Tchaikovsky in sketches for his unrealised opera Romeo and Juliet (Ромео и Джульетта), probably dating from 1893.
