First cousin to the composer (b. 1836; d. 1899), born Aleksandra Petrovna Chaykovskaya (Александра Петровна Чайковская); known after her marriage as Aleksandra Petrovna Kartsova (Александра Петровна Карцова).

Aleksandra was the third child of the composer's uncle Pyotr Petrovich Tchaikovsky (1789–1871) and his wife Yevdokiya (née Berens). She married lieutenant-general Pavel Petrovich Kartsov (1821–1892), with whom she had eleven children: Pyotr (died in childhood); Yelizaveta (1858–1908); Mikhail (1860–1909); Georgy (1862–1931); Nikolay (1862–1918); Aleksandra (b. 1863); Mariya (1864–1927); Yekaterina (1866–1941); Praskovya (b.1870); Lidiya (1872–1945); and Pyotr (1874-1930).
