Ziloti is such a precious asset as a proofreader, that you've never had anybody quite like him! Perfidious Chrysander [1], behind your back, ironically observed that Ziloti had found masses of genuinely important errors that he hadn't noticed! He, i.e. Ziloti, is too punctilious regarding the accuracy of the markings, but let this flaw (in my eyes a terrible virtue) forever remain with him. I don't want to have another proofreader. I'll need to talk with him regarding his excesses, but then he'll be a golden proofreader for me. I'm writing this in the spirit of a wholly satisfied reviewer.

P. T.

Tell Chrysander that he's wasting his time altering cres - cendo to cre - scendo. The former is correct.

  1. Nils Gustav Chrysander (1846-1918), a Norwegian pianist who lived in Moscow from 1876 to 1915, and who was one of the most experienced proofreaders at Pyotr Jurgenson's publishing house.
