Я вчера только вернулся из Петербурга совсем больной. Поэтому не могу сам исполнить поручение, данное мне Аней. Все просили тебе очень, очень кланяться. Петя здоров и весел: он два раза слышал мою оперу. До свиданья, голубушка.

Dear Lida

I returned from Petersburg just yesterday feeling very ill. Because of this I cannot accomplish the task given to me by Anya. I ask you to bow very, very low to everyone. Petya [1] is healthy and cheerful: he has twice heard my opera [2]. Until we meet, golobushka.
