Golubchik Tolya! Congratulations on the vice-governorship; I had not expected this to happen so soon, and was astonished to read about your appointment in the newspapers.

I am happy, and at the same time rather sad that you've left your natural environment. Anyway, the important thing is that you are rid of Smitten .

I've just written to Jurgenson to send you what I owe. If I'm not mistaken, the term for payments has expired in any case, and I have to pay you interest. Please, do not hesitate to tell me how much this should be above the 1000 rubles.

On Saturday I took part in a Russian symphony concert . I'm very glad, that I had occasion to appear in public in one role amongst many, and I considered myself flattered to have been where Rimsky-Korsakov had the lead role. I want to see in the holidays here, and go to the country on 26 December, and stay put there until I leave for abroad at the end of January. I've already made up my mind to see you in Tiflis in April, i.e. to travel from London by sea to Batum. Kisses, hugs!
