8 апр[еля] 1885 Москва Модичка! Прости, что не писал так долго. Пишу наскоро с главнейшею целью попросить тебя устроить, чтобы Гитри не приезжал ко мне ни в Москву, ни в Майданово. Я очень боюсь этого. Я ему тоже сейчас пишу и предупреждаю тебя, что вранье моё будет такое: я должен ехать в деревню на юг России по семейным делам и собирался это сделать в мае, но так как в мае меня зовут [в] Одессу, где будет идти «Мазепа» (это правда, хотя я вовсе не собираюсь ехать), то в деревню надо ехать теперь. Так и знай, когда встретишь его, что нужно врать в этом смысле. Я провёл три дня в деревне, где, несмотря на холод, начинает отзываться весной, а вчера приехал для свадьбы Коншина, которая и состоялась со свойственным В. Д. Коншину блеском. Сегодня по делам остаюсь здесь: между прочим буду обедать у Альтани, который предварил, что должен иметь большое объяснение со мной. Предчувствую, что это желают надуть меня с «Вакулой». Завтра еду в Майданово. Целую. Прости, что мало пишу. П. Чайковский

8 April] 1885 Moscow Modichka! Sorry for not writing for so long. I'm writing in a rush with the main aim of asking you to make sure that Guitry doesn't come to me either in Moscow or at Maydanovo. I'm very afraid of this. I'm just about to write to him now, and I'm forewarning you that my tale will be this: I have to go to the country in the south of Russia on family matters, and was intending to do this in May, but since in May they've summoned me to Odessa, where "Mazepa" will be on (this is true, although I have no intention of going), then I must go to the country now. So you know when you meet him that you need to say something along these lines. I spent three days in the country, where, despite the cold, it's starting to feel like spring, and yesterday I arrived for the Konshin wedding, which took place with V. D. Konshin's characteristic splendour. Today I'm staying here on business; incidentally, I'm having dinner with Altani, who prefaced this saying he had something important to discuss with me.
