Lazhechnikov's historical drama ''The Oprichniks'' (Опричники) was written in 1843, but banned from publication until 1859 due to its depiction of Ivan the Terrible. It formed the basis for Tchaikovsky's third opera, [[The Oprichnik]] (1870-72), with the composer himself compiling the libretto from Lazhechnikov's text.
As quickly as possible, please, kindly send the full score of [[Cui]]'s "''Tartar Songs''" to the Conservatory, and also to arrange, please, for the following passages from "Ratcliff" to be delivered here: 1) from the piano reduction — Act I, 2nd Scene, pages 81-87, and 2) Act II, scene 1, pages 100-109 <ref name="note1"/>.
