Dijon is the historical capital of the province of Burgundy in eastern France, and now the capital of the Côte-d'Or department and of the Bourgogne region.

Tchaikovsky in Dijon

Tchaikovsky took shelter at Dijon from 28 December 1878/9 January 1879–29 December 1878/10 January 1879 in order to escape from a severe snowstorm affecting his journey from Paris to Clarens.

Attending the theatre on the first evening of his stay, he found that "although the actors and actresses are second-rate, they are still very decent" [1].
