Ему грустно, «''что ты охотнее делишься своими мечтами и впечатлениями с M[ademois]elle Диной или Назаром, чем с ним''». Тон, которым это пишется, такой тёплый, милый, что я был очень тронут. Я предупредил его в своём ответе, что насплетничаю тебе. Изволь объясняться и оправдываться.


Не сокрушайся, что не поехал в Байрейт. Мой америк[анский] друг ''William von Sachs'' пишет мне оттуда, что ни одного места на «Парсифаля» найти нет никакой возможности.
Maitland was educated in law at Eton and Trinity College, [[Cambridge]], where he won a Whewell scholarship for international law. In 1876, he became an equity and conveyancing lawyer at Lincoln's Inn, [[London]], later specialising in the history of English law. From 1884 he was professor of English law at Christ's College, [[Cambridge]], and in 1888 became Downing professor of the laws of England.

When Tchaikovsky received an honorary doctorate from [[Cambridge]] University in 1893, he stayed overnight with Maitland (the president of the [[Cambridge]] Musical Society), his wife Florence and their two young daughters at Downing College.

He is sad "''that you are more willing to share your dreams and impressions with Mademoiselle Dina <ref name="note2"/> or [[Nazar]] <ref name="note3"/>, than with him''. He writes so warmly and sweetly that I was very touched. I warned him in my reply <ref name="note4"/> that I would be blabbing to you. Kindly explain and account for yourself.

Frederic Maitland (1850-1906)

English jurist and historian (b. 28 May 1850 [N.S.] in London; d. 19 December 1906 [N.S.] in Las Palmas, Canary Islands), born Frederic William Maitland.

Maitland was educated in law at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he won a Whewell scholarship for international law. In 1876, he became an equity and conveyancing lawyer at Lincoln's Inn, London, later specialising in the history of English law. From 1884 he was professor of English law at Christ's College, Cambridge, and in 1888 became Downing professor of the laws of England.

When Tchaikovsky received an honorary doctorate from Cambridge University in 1893, he stayed overnight with Maitland (the president of the Cambridge Musical Society), his wife Florence and their two young daughters at Downing College.
