German poet and author (b. 15 October 1821 [N.S.] at Trhové Dušníky; d. 13 May 1872 [N.S.] at Oberdöbling).

Tchaikovsky's Settings of Works by Hartmann

Hartmann's poem Schweigen, translated into Russian in 1861 by Aleksey Pleshcheyev (1825–1893) as Silence (Молчание), was set by Tchaikovsky as Not a Word, O My Friend (Ни слова, о друг мой), No. 2 of the Six Romances, Op. 6 (1869).
