Нет, я нисколько не забываю тебя и, напротив, по случаю приближающегося выпуска очень думаю о тебе. Дай Бог, чтоб все сошло удачна. Я до великого поста не пойду в контору театров за разовыми, пускай наберётся побольше, а то боюсь разочароваться. Как только получу деньги, так сейчас и вышлю должные мною 227 р[ублей] сер[ебром]. На масленицу я буду ожидать тебя; пускай Модя не приезжает на этот раз, а то будет очень разорительно, боюсь, что у меня не хватит денег. В будущем году, если доживём, я Выпишу его. А впрочем, посмотрим. С ним-то мы летом непременно увидимся, а с тобой Бог весть! Если ты поедешь к Саше, то вряд ли поживём вместе, ибо я к ней не поеду до тех пор, покамест Лева не переедет в своё собственное имение.

Пишу тебе это письма ночью после концерта Музыкального общ[ества]. Исполнялась в первый раз моя фантазия «Фатум». Это, кажется, лучшее, что я до сих пор написал, по крайней мере, так говорят другие (успех значительный). Читал ли ты статью Лароша о моей опере? Если б ты мог знать все обстоятельства, предшествовавшие статье, и побудительные причины её появления, то ты {{...}} <ref name="note1"/>. С большим жаром принялся я за «Ундину». Уже большая часть 1-го действия готова. К сожалению (не говори этого Папаше), моё здоровье в последнее время решительно порасстроилось; нервы раздражены до крайности, так что я подчас ослабеваю до совершенного изнеможения. На прошлой недели я было решил даже уехать куда-нибудь до сентября на отдых, — но раздумал. Это бы было очень неловко относительно Рубинштейна, который был бы поставлен в очень затруднительное положение насчёт классов. Я случайно узнал на вечере у Оболенского, что Алёша здесь проездам; на другой день утром съездил к нему и познакомился с его супругой, — очень мила.

Ты спрашиваешь про Володю. Он мне несколько раз писал и всегда поручает сказать тебе, что он тебя ужасна любит. Живёт он в Ницце и страшно кутит, судя по беспрестанным требованиям денег из дому.

Кланяйся Папаше, Л[изавете] Мих[айловне] и Моде и всех их расцелуй. Дай мне сейчас же знать, будешь ли ты на масленице и в какой день тебя ждать.

No, I haven't forgotten you in the least — on the contrary, with the impending graduation I think about you very much. May God grant that everything goes well. Until Lent I won't be going to the theatre office for single tickets; let me gather up a few more, otherwise I'm afraid it will be a disappointment. As soon as I receive the money, I'll send the money I owe at once, 227 silver rubles. I'll be expecting you at Shrovetide; don't let [[Modya]] come this time, otherwise it will be very ruinous — I'm afraid I won't have enough money. I'll make it up to him next year, provided I'm alive. Anyway, let's see. I'll certainly see him in the summer, and as for you, God knows! If you go to [[Sasha]]'s then we're unlikely to be living together, because I won't be going to see her until [[Lyova]] moves to his own estate. 

I'm writing this letter to you at night after a Musical Society concert. My fantasia "[[Fatum]]" was performed for the first time. This seems to be the best thing I've written so far — at least, that's what others say (a significant success). Have you read [[Laroche]]'s article about my opera? If you could know all the circumstances that led up to the article, and the reasons for its appearance, then you {{...}} <ref name="note1"/>. I'm setting to work on "[[Undina]]" with great enthusiasm. Already the greater part of the 1st act is ready. Unfortunately (don't tell this to [[Papasha]]), my health has been decidedly upset recently; my nerves are frayed to the extreme, so that now and again I'm weakened to the point of complete exhaustion. Last week I even decided to go somewhere before September for a holiday — but changed my mind. This would have been very awkward for [[Nikolay Rubinstein|Rubinstein]], who would have been put in a very difficult position regarding classes. I accidentally learned at Obolensky's soirée that Alyosha was passing through here; the next morning I went to see him and made the acquaintance of his wife — very nice. 

You ask about [[Vladimir Shilovsky|Volodya]]. He's written to me several times and always instructs me to tell you that he loves you terribly. He's living in [[Nice]], and bingeing terribly, judging from his incessant demands for money from home. 

Bow to [[Papasha]], [[Lizaveta Mikhaylovna]] and [[Modya]], and kiss them all. Let me know at once whether you'll be here for Shrovetide and what day to expect you.
