Dear Eduard!

At the earliest opportunity I want to republish the 4-hand arrangements of my 1st and 3rd symphonies, and also "The Tempest". In this instance it is necessary to undertake thorough and detailed proofreading, and since I do not have the ability to do this myself (as there is no-one here to play 4 hands with), then I earnestly request you to take up this business with Taneyev and to devote some free evenings to it. Also ask Kashkin to attend to this. Pay particular attention to the 3rd symphony; there are some places which are completely impossible to play.

Please forgive me for taking you away from your affairs. But by virtue of our friendship I urge you not to refuse me, and to bring these 3 arrangements as close as possible to perfection. I will be eternally grateful to you!!!

Regards to all our lot, and also to your wife and sons.

Your devoted,

P. Tchaikovsky

For God's sake don't refuse!
