Mon cher ami !

Votre tous devoue,

Р. Tschaikovsky

My dear friend!

I am infinitely grateful to you for the small modification which you suggested to me. This is exactly what is required, and now I am now surprised that I did not think of it sooner. Only, given the interrogative meaning of the sentence, I cannot use the earlier melody. Here is what I suggest to you:

Nothing will be changed in the accompaniment save for the position of the chord, which was previously to be found on the first bar of page 164.

With this, I shake your hand cordially, and ask you, my dear friend, to convey my greetings to Aleksandra Pavlovna, to Altani, Barzal, and all the other dear friends in Moscow.

Your ever devoted,

P. Tchaikovsky
