Montbéliard is a town in western France, part of the Doubs department and the Franche-Comté region.

Tchaikovsky in Montbéliard

Tchaikovsky visited the town from 20 December 1892/1 January 1893 to 21 December 1892/2 January 1893, to see his childhood governess Fanny Dürbach. She was then living at rue Clémenceau in Montbéliard, and the two had not seen each other since 1848. "The feelings I experienced were unusually powerful, strange, magical: just as though for two days I had been carried back to the forties" [1].
