Pompeii (Pompei) is a city in the Naples (Napoli) province and Campania region of Italy, famous for the ruins of its ancient Roman city.

During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Regno delle Due Sicilie), before becoming part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
