5 июля Москва Я получил приглашение разом от 1) Хорового общества, где я состою чем-то вроде директора и 2) от Синодальных певчих. Те и другие желали, чтобы я прослушал все ими вновь выученное. Поэтому я был в Москве, но как раз когда тебя не было. Наличных денег у меня не хватило, и поэтому я жил в долг в Моск[овской] гостинице. Завтра придут к тебе за деньгами, — потрудись выплатить 25 руб[лей] сер[ебром] подателю. Карлуша собирается на этой неделе ко мне, и я его просил добыть Кашкина (коего очень хочу видеть), а тебя умоляю сговориться с ними двумя и приехать тоже. Всего лучше вам выехать с почтовым поездом; но прошу хорошо позавтракать и, даже лучше, пообедать, дабы мы могли до ужина нагуляться вволю. Необходимо предупредить меня, когда вы будете. Итак, прошу тебя немедленно войти в переговоры с Карлушей, решить день и час отъезда и дать мне знать, дабы я вышел вас встретить. Очень бы хотелось, чтобы это состоялось. Твой, П. Чайковский Пожалуйста, если ты ещё не послал мне 100, которые я просил, пришли их. До 5 июля я их ещё не получал, хотя письмо твоё получил.

5 July Moscow I received simultaneous invitations from 1) the Choral Society, where I am some sort of director, and 2) from the Synod Choir. Both of them wanted me to listen to everything they had learned again. That'swhy I was in Moscow, but at a time when you weren't there. I didn't have enough money available, and so I lived off a credit note in the Moscow Hotel. They will be coming to you for the money tomorrow — kindly pay the bearer 25 silver rubles. Karlusha is planning to see me this week, and I asked him to bring Kashkin (whom I really want to see), and I urge you to confer with them both and arrange to come too. It's best if you come with the post train; but I urge you to have a good lunch and, even better, dinner so that we can stroll until our heart's content before supper. It's essential to warn me when you'll be coming. So, I ask you to enter into discussions with forthwith Karlusha to decide the date and time of your departure and let me know so that I can come out to meet you. I very much want this to happen.
