Syzran

Syzran (Сызран) is a Russian city on the Volga river, and is the administrative centre of the Syzran district (Сызранский район) in Samara oblast (Самарская область).

During Tchaikovsky's lifetime the city was part of the Stavropol district (Ставропольский уезд) in the Samara province (Самарская губерния) of the Russian Empire.

Tchaikovsky passed through Syzran on 23 May/4 June 1887, during his steamship journey down the Volga river.
