[...] For reasons which would take too long to explain, I had to abandon my return to Paris and undertake a long journey from London to Tiflis. I arrived here two days ago, where amongst other letters I found yours, Madame, and I was deeply touched by your kindness and by the consideration you would like to show me, of which I feel unworthy. Not only, Madame, do you not blame me for not even having called before my departure for London, for which I express my apologies for not having been able to take advantage of your friendly invitation, but you have shown your indulgence once more by offering me dinner with you [...] But if the good Lord grants me life and good health I shall certainly be returning many more times to Paris, and it shall be a great pleasure for me to find you at home [...]
