15 дек[абря] 1888 С[анкт] Петербург Глубокоуважаемый Эдуард Осипович! Простите, что так поздно отвечаю на милейшее письмо Ваше, — но у меня все это время было так много переездов, концертов, репетиций, — что, ей Богу, невозможно было. Очень рад и польщён, что меня выбрали почётным членом в "Umĕlecká Beseda". Насчёт икры я в Москве спрашивал. Говорят, что свежую икру, в том виде, как её едят в России, невозможно перевозить за границу. Что касается хорошей солёной икры, то если Вы хотите её выписывать в большом количестве, то нужно обращаться не в Москву, а в те местности, где она добывается. Если Вы хотите иметь икру не в большом количестве, то можно получить и прямо из Москвы. Я просил моего приятеля П. И. Юргенсона исполнить Ваше поручение, если Вы к нему обратитесь. Сам же я в Москве больше не буду. Итак, потрудитесь, многоуважаемый друг, написать Юргенсону (10, Неглинный проезд, Москва), сколько Вам нужно икры и какого качества. 15 December 1888 Saint Petersburg Deeply respected Eduard Osipovich! Forgive me for being so late in replying to your most nice letter , — but in all this time I have had so many journeys, concerts, rehearsals, that, my God, it was impossible. I am very happy and flattered to have been chosen as an honorary member of the "Umĕlecká Beseda" . I enquired about caviar in Moscow. It is said that fresh caviar, in the form in which it is consumed in Russia, cannot be transported abroad. As for good salted caviar, then if you wish to export it in large quantities, then you need to apply not to Moscow, but rather to those areas where it is obtained. If you wish to have caviar, but not in large quantities, then you might obtain it directly from Moscow. I have asked my good friend P. I. Jurgenson to fulfil your order, if you contact him. I myself shall not be in Moscow any longer. Therefore kindly, my most respected friend, write to Jurgenson (10 Neglinny Lane, Moscow) the quality of caviar you need and in what quantity.
