Mein lieber, hochgeehrter Freund!

My dear, highly respected friend!
I have received your friendly lines and thank you cordially for the good news that you gave me about "Onegin". This makes me completely happy, as I am very fond of this opera. God grant that you will always speak so well of it as you do now!!! Thank you once again! Regarding the musical material for my Capriccio, I should turn to Rahter in Hamburg. I shall write to him, in order that you should have the music as inexpensively as possible . I send greetings to all my Prague friends! Please tell Herr Director Šubert that I am most grateful to him for the beautiful staging of "Onegin" and that I have completely forgotten the misunderstanding that occurred after the concert. Tell him also that I am not to blame for what was written in the newspaper . Please give friendly greetings to all my interpreters, both the singers and the members of the orchestra.

I hope to visit you on many more occasions!

Until we meet, dear Herr Capellmeister!

Your most devoted,
