Our letters have crossed [1]! Yours is most touching, and at the same time, most upsetting, for I swear to you I cannot come! There are times when my nerves are in such as state that isolation becomes quite obligatory. For goodness sake, my dear and respected friend, don't be angry with me. I am forever your fervent admirer and devoted friend.

P. Tchaikovsky
