15 июля 11 часов вечера Сейчас принесли твоё письмо; спешу ответить. Оркестровые репетиции и оперы, и балета начнутся не ранее 1-го ноября. Не знаю, достаточно ли это времени, — но признаюсь, что если произойдёт задержка, то это будет прямо убийственно для меня и для успеха обеих вещей. Думаю, что дело пойдёт быстрее, если ты, плюнувши на всех твоих корректоров, будешь покамест иметь дело единственно со мной. Я готов посвятить все своё время корректурам, до тех пор пока все не будет кончено. Посылай мне прямо все, что выйдет из-под рук гравёров. Разумеется, я берусь корректировать только партитуры. Но раз, что партитура будет верна, — голоса прокорректировать Дальгрену будет легко. А покамест, ради Бога, без Дальгрена и кого бы то ни было. В конце концов, я лучше их всех сумею своё произведение отстоять от ошибок. Оставь на время двухручное переложение; успеем сто раз. Пусть все из кожи лезут, чтобы партитуры были награвированы и посылаемы мне. А за сим ведь я безусловно равнодушен к изданию партитур опер и балетов. 15 July 11 o'clock evening. I've just been brought your letter [1]; I'm hurrying to reply. Orchestral rehearsals for both the opera and the ballet [2] will commence no earlier than 1st November. I don't know whether this is sufficient time, but I acknowledge that should a delay occur then frankly it will be devastating for me and for the success of both items. I think things will move more quickly if you spit on all your proofreaders, and in for the time being deal exclusively with me. I am prepared to devote all my time to proof reading, until everything is finished. Send directly to me everything that comes from the hands of the engravers. Naturally, I'm only undertaking to correct the full scores. Yet those scores will be accurate, and Dahlgren [3]} will find it easy to proofread the parts. But for now, let there be no Dahlgren or anyone else, for God's sake. Ultimately I'm better placed than anyone to protect my works from errors. Leave the two-handed arrangement for now [4]; there's time to do that a hundred times over Let everyone do their utmost to ensure that the full scores are engraved and sent to me. Nevertheless, I'm decidedly indifferent about the full score editions of the opera and ballet. You find that printing the full score creates a demand, yet I think it's better to wait for the demand before producing and distributing the full score and parts.
