Golubchik Volodya!

All sorts of visitors and commotion have again brought on a headache, so I decided to send for your remedy, and then take to my bed, otherwise I shall not be capable of conducting tonight [1]. Because of this I won't be visiting you. Please don't be angry. At the "Saratov" I heard your new waltzes with Poplavsky [2]. Brugger performed his task very conscientiously [3]. There are many effective and interesting passages, but in general this was somewhat heavy music for the restaurant's visitors. We shall talk about this in more detail when we meet.

I was with Kostya today [4]. He wants awfully to see you, and asked me to tell you that if you let it be known that you want to see him, he would happily come running.

I'll visit you next week on my return from Kharkov. I embrace you warmly. Send me a few words today to let me know how you're feeling.

Yours P. Tchaikovsky
