Thank you, dear Ilya Ilyich, for carrying out my photographic assignments [1]. Because of the superior quality of Fedetsky's work, I don't find his prices to be expensive. But to tell the truth, as I recall, with Polish fawning, he begged and pleaded with me to have them taken, only to find that he provided a rather meagre sample of picture cards. Usually in such cases I receive far more. If all the cards I signed during their production were bought for money by teachers at the Music School, then Mr Fedetsky is a very stingy Pole. And yet, to hell with it: his work is so good that it's fair enough. (But ought I really be paying for the group photographs? I should like to have them, except for the price.)

I was in Moscow, where I went to attend a conservatory performance (which was very successful) and for the first production of Rakhmaninov's "Aleko". It's a delightful thing that I liked very much. I was also in Nizhny Novgorod with my brother, and was fascinated by the flooding of the Oki and Volga. I arrived here yesterday evening, and will leave tomorrow for London and Cambridge. I'm returning in mid June.

I bow deeply to Serafima Vasilyevna, and embrace you heartily.
