Dear friend Pavel Leontyevich!

Did you know that I've given up on the whole idea of performing «Paradies und Peri». Firstly, there are hardly any Russian translations of the complete text, and secondly, it deprives me one of the other symphonic items. Therefore I think I'll be satisfied with the first movement alone of «Paradies und Peri». It's bound to have been translated, because I myself recall it being performed under Anton Grigoryevich some time ago. And so, I think that "Paradies" and my symphony will be included in the concert on 27 November (if the latter isn't performed at the first concert on 16th October), or Konyus's suite! The latter will produce a furore, and I'm unutterably pleased to have occasion to acquaint Petersburg with a new big talent. For the last movement I need a children's chorus who must certainly be children. I'm thinking of asking Johansen to let us have the youngest male and female students at the conservatory, and besides this, you'll need to engage a singing choir. It's extremely easy to learn. Two singing rehearsals in the hall should be sufficient.

We'll discuss the solo singers in person; I have some in mind. We'll talk about everything in geneeral in Petersburg.

Keep well, most respected Pavel Leontyevich!

Sincerely devoted,

P. Tchaikovsky
