Милый друг Адольф!

Рекомендую тебе г[оспо]жу Розу Майерсон. Окажи ей пожалуйста в Нью-Йорке всяческую поддержку и покровительство.

Твой, П. Чайковский

Adolph, dear friend!

I recommend Mrs Rosa Mayerson to you [3]. Please give her your full support and patronage in New York.

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. Dated approximately on the basis of Adolph Brodsky's period in residence as concertmaster of the New York Symphony Orchestra from October 1891 onwards.
  2. We are grateful to the director of this library, Michael Ryan, and to the curator of the Performing Arts Collection, Jennifer Lee, for making a copy of this letter available to us for publication.
  3. On 12 January 1892 the ship Scandia arrived in New York, having sailed from Hamburg via Le Havre. On board was a Rosa Meyersohn, aged 24, whose last residence was recorded as "Moskow" [sic] - see https://www.ellisisland.org/search/FormatPassRec.asp?ID=604540010085&BN=P50454-0&sship=Scandia&lineshipid=22156. Unfortunately no more information can be traced concerning this individual, and we cannot be sure that she was in fact the subject of Tchaikovsky's letter. The name "Майерсон" can be transliterated from the Russian in variously as Meyersohn, Mayersohn, Myerson, Majersohn, etc.
